2 Day Assertive Leadership

The purpose of this 2-day course is to provide participants with tools, techniques, and a forum for discussing difficult team related issues that require effective and mature leadership skills.

All of the topics discussed in this course are aimed at providing participants with tools and skills they can take away and use immediately in the environment to better handle difficult situations.

The communication skills presented in this course will allow leaders to have authentic and effective interactions with their staff members, enabling them to truly manage performance issues.  They will learn to set clear guidelines, discuss facts without emotion, manage difficult personalities, gain confidence in tackling performance related matters, and create an overall management style that builds an empowered and self-developing team with commitment to the organisation.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Define the difference between compliance and commitment
  • Discuss the Performance Management Cycle
  • Describe the benefits of checking the system before checking the people
  • Discuss the difference between system failure and human error
  • Differentiate between positive language patterns and negative language patterns and define the impact they each have of team members
  • Demonstrate the ability to use positive language instead of negative language
  • Discuss the difference between failure demand and value demand from the team member’s point of view
  • Discuss the importance of appropriate communication as a primary leadership skill
  • Define the areas of self-improvement and create a plan to strengthen them
